I don't even have a problem with the ending or anything Really? But it's such a cop-out! "I love you!" "I love you too! Why don't you stay here?" "Um...nah. Gotta go. Byeee!" Plus of course Van played by Tomokazu Seki, who is just a LEGEND. He's very funny. Have you seen the cast interviews on the DVD? I love hearing deadly-serious Van's voice saying "So, let's talk about our first kisses. My first kiss was with a guy!"

Cop-out? What do you expect them to do?
"I may be only 16 years old and missing all of my friends and family that I've left behind on the Earth - who are no doubt worried to DEATH about me as well - and all that other pining for home that I've been doing for the entire rest of the series...but you know what? Forget all that because my crush is more important."
"You know that's what I like about you Hitomi. Your complete disregard for your own character development during the past 25 episodes."
"Alternatively of course, Van, you could come with me to Earth."
"Sure, why not. It wouldn't matter that I was leaving a shattered kingdom to fend for itself and disregarding all of MY roots, responsibilites and friends (especially Merle, because come on - she has frikkin' cat ears AND is voiced by the woman best known for playing Pikachu), because I'd be doing it for the sake of a teenage romance. And that's all that matters."
"Yes. Nothing else matters in the world(s) as long as we're together. Not even the continuity of personalities."
"We'll probably fall out a few months down the line you know."
"Yeah, but the series is over now. They'll never know."
"Aha, but what about the movie?"
"You expect a meaningful extension of the plot in an anime movie?"
"Touché."
I haven't watched the DVD extras yet, but I'll make sure I do before I give them back to Emily (but why is the trailer on every disc the same Gundam one? Why?!)

Oh, and Episode 22 of School Rumble is unparalleled genius.
The Kibasen battle that takes up the majority of the episode (it's the school sports day) is awesome on so many levels.
Plus it has a Frankensteiner (aka Hurracanrana; aka Flying Leg Scissors) in it. Which is never a bad thing.

Cop-out? What do you expect them to do? Have you read The Amber Spyglass? In the last chapter of that, exactly the same thing happens (minus the flying away), and it's brilliantly done. They built it up and build it up throughout the last few chapters of the book, so when it finally happens, it's devastating, and still somehow feels like the right thing. Not many books can make me cry, but that bit did. In Escaflowne, they just tack it on in the last five seconds - it happened too suddenly to make me care about it. Don't get me wrong, I like sad endings as much as anyone, but it could have been done so much better.

I bet that if they'd built it up it would only have pissed you off even more. And no, I haven't read The Amber Spyglass yet.

It wouldn't have pissed me off even more, because it would have given me a chance to get into my "oh, the anguish!" mindset, and I would have ended up caring. There was just no emotion. What's even more annoying is they proved they could write really tense, emotional scenes (the "I want you! Um...I mean, I want your powers..." scene). They obviously just got to the end and thought "Shit, how are we going to end this? I know, let's decide in the movie."

the movie doesn't even do that. It rewrites the whole thing and *still* cops out at the end....

Oh no! What's the end of the movie? Do they at least get a kiss?

Dammit! There are only two good ways to end a romance - on a kiss, or with death.

yeah, eternal seperation is kinda lame when compared to bleeding to death all over your beloved...

I've just received word that episode 18 of Evangelion has destroyed Sami's soul.

The mindfuck one or the watch-as-you-kill-your-best-friend one? (Not that I've seen either, but hey...) yeah, eternal seperation is kinda lame when compared to bleeding to death all over your beloved... Hush. Eternal separation is also good as long as you get a bit of a kiss beforehand. Although, hell, bleeding to death was good enough for Juliet and Othello...

destroyed her soul? Isn't that a *little* much? Not even random Champloo zombies destroyed MY soul...

Good thing too. You need a soul if you're going to fight zombies.

Because otherwise you'll just end up as one of them... She did reconstruct her soul, but not for a little while after watching it.

It's a pity Tom would be taking Syaoran's role by default, because dye his hair and he could fit Fai.

Maybe we could combine the two. Faiyoran. I doubt Em would object...
