Ah...there's probably some stupid loophole like "You digest them, so they're digestive!"

The closest to an answer I've got is because they're easy to digest...more so than regular biscuits. When first created in 1839, a higher content of baking soda was added as an aid to food digestion.
Trivia: each year 71 million packets of McVities Chocolate Digestives are sold in the United Kingdom, which equates to 52 biscuits being eaten every second.

"The typical digestive biscuit contains wheat flour, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, sugar, wholemeal, cultured skimmed milk, partially inverted sugar syrup, raising agents, and salt."
Apparently.

marinade it in soy sauce, some brown sugar, and chilli powder for the previous 12 hours (or more)
Roll in flour, Dip in batter made of egg, water and flour (garlic powder and chilli is good to add) Fry in wok in about an inch of oil.
Fucking delicious, thats the variation I use on classic tempura for tofu, You can do the same with fresh prawns, but dont marinade them. i'll show you how at easter if you like.
