How can you call it "most overrated" when others such as Bridget Jones exist?
*prepares for furious female onslaught*

Is it just the film adaptations you hate, or are you arguing against the Most-Popular-Book-Besides-The-Bible as a whole?

Lord of the Rings is like the bible in the way that they have both been taken too seriously by some people with dire consequences. Paving the way for "Dungeons and Dragons" and Christianity, repectively

The Lord of the Rings has never interested me. I was dragged along to see the 2nd film - bit stupid since I hadn't seen the 1st, thus i got confused & just spent the whole time laughing at talking trees & the short guy who kept getting left behind & stuff. Anyway, I suppose i might enjoy reading the books... (if i ever had the time or self discipline to do so)

As for people taking things too seriously, that happens with just about everything. It's simply that the more popular something is, logically there is a larger population of geeks to support it.
And the LOTR is so very popular...

I confused! You ask whether its shit or good, and then you tell her off for saying her opinion that is shit! This is quite weird!

I think he was being sarcastic as it wasn't a great post as she didn't give any reason for her opinion, plus the fact that no-one rates her opinion anymore... (after the many trolling incidents if you don't know why)

It looks like a load of boring crap, but then again I haven't seen it, or read the book, so my opinion isn't that valid.

The book far surpasses the films! The only good to come out of the films is the hugely hilarious piss-takes the have followed, e.g. The French and Saunders ones ;D
p.s.. I also think that the Bridget Jones film is complete and utter crap!
