Well my name cleared. The building will not pass a formal inspection and the Landlord is a lazy beggar... BUT my name cleared so I just have to pay for that and then I legally own my shop name.

The process to get a tattoo shop where I live is about 8-10 weeks. the first 4-6 is just getting the community approval.

Won an $1000 speech video contest scholarship for the bible college I'm going to next year. It was 18 hours of work, 8 or writing and 10 of videoing and editing, but it paid off!

Video editing? That sounds usual. Congratulations! What sort of topic was it on?

Hebrews 12: 1-3, with the topic being "unhindered faith"
I kind of feel like I'm only a Christian at this point to not disappoint my family, and I felt like garbage after pulling crap out of my ass for the speech and then winning the damn thing.

Ah man, that kind of sucks. : (
I think a lot of people go through the only-being-Christian-for-my-family at your age. Hmmm...So how does this fit in now that you're going to a Bible college?

Need another dose of brainwashing, of course.

Double double post, yall.
Is anybody going to Calgary Comic Expo this weekend? I have a weekend pass, it might be cool to say hey to a few of you if I can pull myself away from the comics long enough.

Huh. I live quite far from Calgary, but I hope you have fun.
@brainwashing: It's probably a good idea to remain rooted with some non-brainwashed friends so that they can prevent you from being brainwashed, or, in the event that you do become brainwashed, march you to some therapy sessions.

Noting which activities give a lot of religiousy feels and avoiding them could also help. (I remember attending a lecture/speaker thingy once, not realizing it was being held by a Christian club. It left me feeling really strange, because I completely agreed with just about everything other than the stuff-in-this-religion-is-true part. (I used to have a lot of values overlap with the really liberal sort of Christianity. Probably still do, to a lesser extent.))

The first time I saw the Shawshank Redemption was at my uni - it was a late showing, and I was ready to leave as soon as the credits rolled. I hadn't realised it was a Christian Union event, until the credits did roll, and a guy got up and began going through all the religious themes in the film. In great detail. When all I wanted to do was go to bed.

Hey Zam, I know I'm late to this party, but if you find bible college rough and you wanna talk, that's cool. Our (me + clemon) dad is a church elder, but I haven't been a christian on the inside for years and years. I've had so many awkward youth group and bible study experiences, I'm sure you can relate. I've never felt so phony as I did every time I had to pray out loud. Eugh, just the thought of it now makes me feel gross. .

I want to be, it would be easier. I still pray sometimes and catch myself doing it, although I never really expect anything of it these days. When my Christian friends talk to me it sounds like a giant circlejerk of "because Jesus" to me more and more. And when we had a bunch of parents at my church giving their kids bibles last week, an elder at our church was telling everyone that you had to teach them all this when they were young and stuff. All I could think of was that it's basically indoctrination. Would I accept even as much of this as I do without growing up being spoon-fed religion?
Despite this, I wish I could just blindly follow and not mess things up. That, and the concept of hell sounds pretty crappy. I'd prefer to avoid that if it is real. Thanks for the offer, maybe I'll take you up on it sometime.

Well I am swinging like a bipolar polar bear atm.... between this thread and the hatey hatey hate thread it seems...
But I have community approval... they can slow me down minorly, but they can't stop me now! I have approval and they can't take it away EVER unless I don't operate there for over 2 years as a tattoo shop.
