First Girl/Guy often crops up with Love Triangle/Dodecahedron stories. (Let me tell you, there are plenty of people who don't like the romantic conclusion to Love Hina, if only because Naru was and is a fairly abusive person; but apparently the twit enjoys being smacked.)
Interestingly, Red String is going on a massive swerve. The First Guy that Miharu met became her fiance... and then he broke it off because daddy told him to (with a smack upside the head when he initially resisted). Instead, it looks like the Romantic Rival may end up winning Miharu's hand, unless Gina Biggs goes with the Unexpected Ending that I suggested as a good ending for RS in a tangent... where Miharu remains single but happy with her choices.
We honestly have too little information on Steve right now to know who he'd end up with. He's second fiddle in Footloose, with less inter-character development than Keti and her coterie (Daniel, Jin, and An). That's why this spinoff storyline is so fascinating... we're seeing Steve as the Protagonist of his own tale, which will build up his own web of character interactions.
If I were to predict (or try to predict) non-romantic plot points, I'd include Steve making "improper friendships" (possibly talking to Jin or some of the Mecha crew) and being scolded by Sparkle, and Steve's own thoughts about his Magical Girl classmates and how he probably doesn't like them much but doesn't want to make waves.
It would also be amusing to see how Steve reacts to his teacher.
Hmm... *evil grin* I could always send a generic cold (they're resistant to treatment by Fae Magic, much like hangovers) to whats-her-name and arrange for a temp to teach a week of classes... be absolutely amusing to see the magical girls oohing and ahhing over an effectual magical girl teacher who knows what she's doing for a change. =^-^=
Only question is... who?
Heh heh heh... oh, I've a candidate. She's not a technical magical girl, but boy would it be amusing to write up a quick story on it. ^^

I don't think Phneighly would count in this venue as she's being used as a transition-to-story device. So we'll be keeping an eye on who Steve sees first in Faerie. Oh Gad... I hope it's not Sparkle. Ugh....
Those three make a cool and kickass transit team though, I'll say that much. ^^

Yeah, Martyn is one of those characters we felt sorry for not being on screen ever, and phneighly is the Dojo's most experienced elf so she' be a naturla choice for a pickup team going to earth. In the first draft Ally had put Claudia with the boys, but then we realised there'd be no-one who could perform a spell to take them home.

Well, one advantage of the Cherry mini-comic is that it allows you to focus a bit on the Dojo. There's not nearly the Plot Involvement here, and I suspect things won't quite go the same way as with Keti's arrival. ^^;;
You did a superb job with these three. Damn... now I need to review Cherry. =^-^=

And Iordan once again opens mouth and inserts foot. Poor boy, he should start wearing better-tasting footwear. ^^;;

urgh, I'm not liking my attempts at night lighting, everything is coming out with a kind of shiny latex surface rather than glinty moonlight... :/

So create a light-source. Some sort of faerie light that floats in mid-air. It's not like this is a combat op - they're picking up, not dropping off. ^^

what?? Can't create a light source half way through a scene. madness, and way more trouble than it's worth (cue onslaught of readers bitching about it)
Just need to try harder. It worked really well on the cover, i think I'm just getting the balance wrong.

Maybe the shine off of their hair and such needs a bluer tinge? To show it's more night? Hmm. I'm not exactly up on nighttime lighting, I'm afraid.
You might also want to add more shading to their faces; probably along one edge of the face, to help give them a more three-dimensional feel.

moonlight provides a strong light, easily as sharp as daylight in the absense of any stronger light sources, but the shadows it casts are much deeper so the contrast is high, it also has a stong white/blue colour... it's very difficult to get right it seems, thinks deeper shadows might be a big part. Glad you like the trees, I've been experimenting with a new circle brush that creates random dots.

Hee! Looks like Jin is the First Girl that Steve "runs into" here! =^-^=
I must admit, I'm curious as to how their relationship will evolve... with An making an appearance in the somewhat-near-future, Sparkle and Daniel will end up splitsville, which will result in Sparkle going from charm-mode to loathe-mode on both Daniel and Jin. (Though I suspect even when dating Daniel, Sparkle probably was fairly dismissive of Jin.)
It would be rather interesting to see if Steve and Jin ended up starting to build a friendship... and then Sparkle putting the kibosh on that when she gets a full-fledged hate-on going for Daniel and Jin.
It's also rather cute to see that Jin used to miss the target all the time too. And I bet Keti would never believe it. Ally? If you can fit it in, maybe when our heroes get reunited, have Jin reminiscing in earshot of Keti about how she brained Steve with a shoe the very first time he appeared in Faerie. =^-^=

I spent ages looking through the little mermaid where stupid Eric is all drownded and Ariel is singing to him to get inspiration for that shot of Jin. And the last panel is supposed to be a homage to the time in footloose where she attacks him after the failium incident.

I preferred the Fairy Tale ending to the Disnified one. (Turned into a breath of wind and in 300 years getting a soul and going to Heaven.)
Heh. One of these days Jin's going to be looking down on Steve like that and he's going to impulsively kiss her nose. =^-^=

I love his face in the last panel... some kind of music, soft-focus, birds singing effect is going on in his head.

Hee! You can almost see the little tweetie birds fluttering around his head. =^-^=
Man. I wish I was rich so I could just commission you to do non-stop comics. ^^;; I hate waiting!

Pete from bardsworth was saying earlier today that if all his readers donated a dollar a month he could do it full time... so could we. its sad that subscription based comic models really haven't taken off yet. people will pay for extra content but not for the main event.

Man. That would get expensive for me quickly. =^-^= Though to be honest, there are only probably a couple dozen webcomics I'd be willing to pay for. (Footloose being one of them.)
The problem is, and I speak from personal experience here as a greedy SOB ^^;; - people don't want to pay for something when they can get it for free. To the point people will accept substandard work and hiatus and all of that rather than pay for a dozen or so comics that update regularly. I only subscribed to Modern Tales when Glych went over to that site and because another cartoonist I liked (RoCR) was on there; I joined to support them, not the rest of the comics, despite there being several really good ones I found after the fact.

it's true, we all want comics for free. so we have to rely on incentives to persuade people to give us cash- ie merchandise, extra comics etc etc.

that's very true, though the few times i have donated to comics i did it because i really liked the comic, not because i wanted the incentive ...no, wait, there was one time where i wanted the incentive wallpaper... but mostly 'cause they were favorites. unfortunately as of late i have no paying job and therefore no money to donate to any comics. sorry, guys. sad day. @ tangent, i thought the other version of little mermaid she turned into sea foam for forever. i don't think i've ever heard of the breath of air/300 years version.
