What's excluded from that story is where I explain what ALL the character choices can do, and then Em chooses the Bishop of her own accord. ¬_¬

No you didn't, you specifically advised me that the bishop would be the best for me to choose that round.

Mmm, no.
I briefly ran through all the character's abilities with a summary of what the results might be on that turn. For example, I probably said that the Thief gets to steal money, but there's the gamble of not knowing whether your taget will have any to steal. Or that the Warlord gets money from military buildings, but of course, there aren't any military buildings in play right now.
At no point did I explicitly tell you to pick the Bishop, nor did I actually know you'd picked the Bishop when I picked the Assassin (and chosen who to kill with him).
The fact that you picked the Bishop because there were a lot of religious buildings around for him to get money from is merely a matter of not thinking through the other roles. The person who picks the Assassin invariably chooses to kill the other player who looks likely to make the most money from this round (usually either the Merchant or the Bishop). Since virtually all the buildings in play at the time were religious ones, even if I hadn't picked the Assassin myself, it was a near certainty that whoever else did pick him would view the Bishop as his prime target.

And he's me thinking you'd screwed her over in candyland or something. Do you have candyland over there?

No.
The lack of the word 'candy' in common vernacular is likely an obstacle. And 'Sweetsland' sounds...poor.

we have cadburyland though...? But I've never been there.
Me and the boss were talking yesterday about what it would be like if cadbury was it's own country- the answer was: not as good as it seems in our imagination.

Cadbury Land isn't also incarnated in a board game, sadly.

If so, no, its not very exciting (soon to be taken over and butchered by Kraft anyways, so even less good then)
