OK, I know to some of you this is nothing new, but there are at least three people on this forum who are counting down to fresher's week.
I've booked my ticket for the fresher's ball (£10 cheaper - bargainous!), torn nearly all of my hair out over Southampton's general uselessness, spent today running around finding sheets, and bought myself a knife and a magical toothbrush. I'm swinging between bouncing off the walls with excitement to curling up in a ball with fear (although much less so, thanks to Em's tarot reading).
Anyway, I'm throwing this thread open to all the old-timer students who've seen it all and know it all, to give any useful advice to us lot. Share your wisdom. ;D

I've been in conversations with people where they've suggested an intention of going along to Freshers' events for the purpose of pulling such Freshers. For they apparently are, and I quote, "easy".
Beware.

Now that's MY idea of fun! Moving on, ignore any1 who says "join loads of groups so you can make loads of friends" as they are usually very expensive & i joined none & i still made friends!!! I also know many other people who didn't join groups, but who are my friends!

Now that's MY idea of fun! "Whoa here she comes, watch out boys she'll chew you up..." ;D I'm planning on joining a few clubs, not specifically for the making of friends but because it's stuff I'm interested in...but yeah, I'm relying on hall-type stuff for friend making. Ugh, I'm rambling. It's far too early and I've only had one cup of coffee.

Emily's guide to freshers week:
1) talk to people, remember that they are new too.
2) go out, don't hie in your room.
3) don't let the second years push you around.
4) only join societies you'll actually go to, ie scuba diving is not a good idea unless you do it allready, whereas rock societies are fun for many!

KCL's societies are all lame. Once you eliminate sports, nationality/religion-specific ones, and those revolving around hip-hop or similar music...you might have half a dozen left. None of which are at all interesting. Then there's the War Studies society itself, which I never bothered becoming a member of because their entire purpose is to drink themselves paralytic every Monday night. I swear they have no other kinds of activity.
