I don't believe there is a way to take out all the phones other than a) cutting every wire in the world, or b) a global blackout, but in which instance we'd have more significant problems anyway.
Besides, they're not inherently linked. The internet is primarily run from giant servers in a relatively limited number of locations, so you could easily 'take out the internet', if you will, whilst leaving the phone lines completely intact.

Yes, by god, you'd be setting the business world's telecommunications back by...10, maybe 15 years. When you think about the amount of power and influence the business world has, fucking things up for them - even temporarily - would fuck it up for everyone else too.

In which case the "if we took the internet away DESTRUCTION!!!" idea is effectively moot, because if the entire basis is the temporary disruption of the global economy, then there are many, much more straightforward, ways of achieving that which don't involve the magical removal of a major technological innovation. The classic way of course being one massive (or a series of smaller, sitauted over the world's primary stock exchanges) EM pulse, which brings us right back in a full circle to the option of nuclear devices that we had to start with.

I still think it would be an effective way of creating confusion and havoc, with rioting and anarchy to follow.

Just because I, personally, am addicted to the internet doesn't mean I'd go out and riot without it.
And I barely use my phone anyway, and even then only for brief text messages that didn't matter in the first place.

There is a reason it's described as the 'classic' method, namely how commonly it is known.

I have no idea why you plan to bring the world to it's knees as I only read the last page but you need to stop your aggression on the world as a whole, just take it out on the men in your life or on some random bloke in the street. Something which I found amusing on msn.co.uk today was something about some Swansea residents being angry with Tango due to the fact that tango mimiced the sony advert where a load of balls are hurled down a hill, but they did this with fruit instead. Here's the link to the local residence assocaitions page where they have show the advert, which has been banned, and also the residences complaints about the destruction, mess and blah blah blah.... www.swansea-res.org.uk/news.htmlI actually found it amusing but I can understand the people's anger at what happend.

They should have made sure it wasn't going to damage people's property...and cleaned up afterwards. But no-one died.
