I was playing This isn't a news article, but it freaked me out anyway. Think the battle against sexism is over? Think again... www.marryourdaughter.org

"Marry Our Daughter is an introduction service assisting those following the Biblical tradition of arranging marriages for their Daughters."
...I see. How typical is the description of one of the (16 year old) girls listed on the front page ($49.995 and she's yours in holy matrimony!):
"Kristin has a wild streak. She likes parties and has spent more time with boys than we’d have liked her to. We had a family talk and decided that it was time she settled down with a man who could meet her needs and help her fulfill her dreams of being an actor or singer. She’s a bit fiery but worth it."
Yeah, we saw her holding hands with a boy one day and decided we had no choice but to tell her she's getting married or else she'll be left disowned on the streets. Because, of course, she can't go to drama college if we don't help with her tuition fees. Be warned, potential suitor, that she may give you some lip. But a few slaps with the back of her hand will subdue her sufficiently. We'll leave it up to your imagination as to what "worth it" means.

Although it seems the website is a hoax, you'll be happy to hear.

*phew* I'm glad to hear that.
The person who I got the link from thought it might be a hoax, but wasn't sure. I thought it didn't seem quite over-the-top enough...I can believe that some people would be willing to do that to their children (and most of them WERE children, one of them was 13 for crying out loud!)

Um, people are marching in favour of democracy and the military dictatorship are beating the shit out of them in response?
That's pretty succinct, I think.
