If Sparkle can't work out how to make actual friends she should at least look into getting some proper loyal minions. Loyal minions would have dug her out sooner.

And where is she going to find those? It's not like most of the Fae are stupid enough to listen to her, and the magical girl crew? Even the most inept cartoon villain around had more effective minions than them.
No, Sparkle will likely remain the "Mean Girl" micro-antagonist she's been since the comic's start. Which is a shame. I'd love to see her developed further. And I know Ally and Em are gifted enough storytellers to flesh her out more, while keeping her semi-detestable. (Though a small part of me still finds the concept of Keti rescuing her and Sparkle realizing to her horror that the Rules of Generics have resulted in her "developing feelings" for her semi-rival. But that's just because I'm cruel... ^^)

Tangent, just because *you* don't currently know where we're going with Sparkle doesn't mean we're not developing her. Currently we've been concentrating on showing how she maintains her position of power (emotional manipulation and a dash of blackmail) and how the other character's developments mean that power structure comes tumbling down around her. The fact that she gets left behind is an example of how little she has come to matter in their eyes. She wants to be feared or loved, now she has neither. This represents a low point for her, the next series will show how she chooses to react.

I truly look forward to seeing that. (And in my defense, I did say "likely" leaving me squirm room ^^)
Not that I have much faith in Sparkle taking a path of redemption. The moment she sees Daniel and An dating... well, she did turn to him for help. That's quite the smack in the face to see she was ignored by someone she showed vulnerability to. And she looks QUITE POed at the moment. =^-^=
Interestingly enough, there is one character there who doesn't hate her and who would likely tell her the way it stands: Steve. (Mind you, he probably doesn't like her and we've not seen what she ultimately does to him in Cherry to try and break his will... but if he does hate her, he hides it fairly well.) Though if Sparkle failed to use her blackmail in the past, he's got the perfect defense: preemptive lying.
"Yeah. I was dating this cute girl... but things didn't really work out. She's trying to blackmail me with doctored photos to continue dating her... not sure what I should do, dad. I mean, the sex is good, but she's nuts..." (Nah. Steve would never write that. Though it would be hilarious.)

are you sure that moment of vunerability wasn't just another layer of deception? or if it was real vunerability isn't Sparkle just the type to punish someone who's seen her at her weakest?
as for the dynamic between Sparkle and Cherry, that's something we'll be exploring in Cherry in a chapter or so...

That depends, and you know her far better than I do, on if she's the sort of person who either lies to herself... or practices deception even when no one is around (which could make sense if you never know when someone is spying on you - always keep the facade up). Seeing her building up her courage on who to call... I had the definite impression she didn't want to. That she really hates feeling helpless... on BEING helpless. Thus calling Daniel for help was an impressive move.
That her request for aid not only was intercepted... but that she was abandoned afterward... no wonder she's infuriated. And yes, I can see Daniel in Sparkle's sights because of the fact she asked him for help so he heard her helpless... and then abandoned her.
I definitely look forward to seeing the further development of Steve and Sparkle's interactions. Even if Steve's heading toward the Bad Middle (before finally achieving a Good End). ^^;;

As a random thought I imagined a monument of sorts in Emerald City dedicated to the guardian golems of the Watch during the Keti catastrophe. A monument made from the now inanimate remains of members of the Watch themselves. It sparkles quite splendidly in the sun. It has a nasty tendency to zap birds that try to sit on it though.

In my mind they were found like that in the middle of a park and nobody felt like cleaning them up so they just stuck a plaque on them and called it a monument or memorial or whatever. It's a much less frightening than figuring it was part of a "community service project" or something.

Em, I so would love to see this drawn. =^-^=
And I think it should have been part of a community service project. Maybe include a plaque as well for the community service people who were zapped by the statue as it was being constructed. Heh heh heh...

COMMUNITY SERVICE IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN THAT.

You misunderstand. First, it's only PART of their service. Second, the zapping? Let's just say that it involved life and limbs (or lack thereof).
Those golems are... well, let's just say I'm evil. But I avoid antagonizing the golems. ^^;;
