It's 14 pounds to a stone. US and Imperial weights (pounds, ounces, etc.) are the same. They only differ in fluid measurements - i.e. fluid ounces, pints, gallons, etc. I have to deal with this nonsense at work every day.

As kids we learn that one big step is one meter. Hang on, hang on, I can see a flaw in that teaching...one big step for a tall person is going to be longer than one big step for a short person.

Oh everyone does rough estimates like that. Professional football (soccer) referees measure 10 yards by taking 10 big steps. No one cares.

I just remember reading in Horrible Histories about how Ancient Egyptians measured cloth by the length from the wrist to the elbow (can't remember what the measurement was called), so everyone sent the lankiest person in their family to buy cloth.

I know lol but even as adults we use that way to measure things have you never seen a person walking through a room or in the garden with funny looking big steps to see if a bed or pool fits in ;p it is better than the alternative option... you have to put your right hands wrist under your armpit (so that your flat hand presses against your ribs) and than you have to stretch out your left arm to your left and when you measure from the left to the right middle finger it is one meter lol please do not let me explain a litre

Ally it is called a cubit or ell and we also use that one, but not so often

That's it! I thought it was ell, but I wasn't sure.
I have to check doctoral theses for work, and someone did theirs on housebuilding in Bali (I think) - they were looking at how traditional houses were built according to measurements based on the dimensions of the woman who would be running the house. I really liked that idea, having a house literally built to fit you.

And we begin chapter 3 in earnest! Already Tim is annoyed and Emily and Stu are singing... this is a fairly familiar scene from real life actually, just remove the spiders and snakes.

At no point in this entire story is Tim not annoyed.
As far as I recall, even in the brief moment when Tim believes he has an opportunity to inflict physical damage on Stuart, that ray of hope is quickly snuffed out. >_>

And Ally, newly crowned queen of gophers is introduced. This used to be Tori's role, but Tori has no time for our silly stories so bye bye tor.

I intentionally avoided its hideousness after the first page. If it could be eradicated from the internet that would be nice.
