First panel really drives in the R'lyeh feel of Emerald City. Seriously, one look at that skyline and I could tell you this is a bad place to be. As for being "so predictable..." Really, Iordan? You're that easy to fool? They know you're coming, and YOU know they know you're coming, yet it doesn't surprise you to find the ship effectively unguarded, everyone on deck seeming to be asleep, with no precautions against intruders or sabotage? Really? Do you need the word "TRAP!" spelled out in 10 ft tall letters in a blazing neon sign hanging from the rigging before you figure it out? Eh, they can't manipulate the plot ALL the time, particularly when they're hanging out with someone (Keti) who has chronic Primary Protagonist Syndrome. Remember, they're still students - they may be strong, but Generics can be stronger.

Me and Ally came up with the BEST alternative ending for this chapter the other day. I can't tell you what it is right now because then you'd know what's NOT going to happen ... but it would have fried all your brains and you'd hate us forever. Rocks falls, everyone but Keti dies, who successfully fights Kitty for control of the Pirate Gang and takes to a life of piracy, with Sparkle as her lover and first mate. Knowing full well Sparkle will try to pull a Starscream on her. =^-^=

It was even BETTER than that, a real plot twist!

I believe the traditional requirement for a 'real plot twist' is for Buffy to reappear (/debut) without meaning or logic and be revealed as being Somehow Behind Everything. :-p

Actually, knowing what's not going to happen only really kills one potential storyline. It leaves dozens of others available to ponder about. =^-^=

Lies. If anything is revealed then everything risks being unraveled.
I've seen enough people try and fail to keep secrets from Yasha to know this.

Most people aren't as persistent as Yash, though. And hell, we gave plenty of clues about An, and no-one guessed that ;D

And I still applaud you and Emily for pulling the wool over this old reviewer's eyes. Well done. =^-^=

New page. Oh dear the Sylphia fans aren't going to like me causing explossions around her!

And of course people complaining about the complete and utter lack of surprise that it was a trap. Tsk. You can't always have EVERYTHING be a surprise! (I blame Emily and Ally - they so surprised readers with having An not be a guy that everyone expects unexpected twists to show up even when it's mandated that tradition strike true. ^^;; Ah well...)

And of course people complaining about the complete and utter lack of surprise that it was a trap. Tsk. Hey now, I was only complaining in jest. And I only felt I could do so because I DID call it last time. And, of course, because I feel the kids really should have seen this coming. She seems to be all right. Should that turn out to not be the case, there will, of course be eviscerations unhappiness, but I'm sure our most excellent creatrices don't really intend to do anything truly bad to their characters, now do they? ;D

Sylphia is strange and amusing in a completely unknowable sort of way, but I have not invested any real emotional concern in her. I will worry if she is confirmed dead with her secrets still intact. The others seem to be in dire straits as well, so there's plenty enough to worry about them too.

I dunno, my lack of foreshortening skills seems to have removed her legs. I'd like to confirm that she does still have legs.

09_18... well we're winding up to the end of the chapter now, cliffhangers will abound. And just in case you needed reminding- Keti is a bit of a n00b really, no wonder they left her on the roof on 'important rope lowering detail'.

That and you always need to leave someone as the rearguard in case you get captured and need rescue - the rearguard getting people together to do the rescue of course! ^^;;

09_19 in which our heroes are outclassed (and outspelled) again. Flibbage what were you thinking? PPS is not nearly a good enough excuse to send teenagers out to fight pirates.

If I were a betting man, I'd lay even odds that An is about to get run through by the Sword of Slayskull. Not killing her, mind you... but leaving her gravely wounded in any event.
The reasoning behind this is threefold. First, it establishes Kitty's dominance over her sister. Second, it negates the biggest threat the pirates have among the rescue team (as An is the best fighter they've got). And third, it establishes that the captives will behave - they can't just abandon her and I doubt she could be easily moved in an escape attempt.
Of course, if Keti were marginally more skilled, she'd swing down right when An was run through, rescue her, and make an escape. The next chapter would then be of An and Keti alone, Keti desperately trying to keep An alive, while hiding from the pirates.
Seeing she's not more skilled, she'll flee (probably at the insistence of Kaeti) and regroup with the other team. All while thinking An is dead and that she abandoned An... and her friends.
