it is important to abstain vocally even if you want to abstain. I always think there should be a box saying "none of these wankers" that you could put your X in.

yeah but if you have the 'none of the above' box you also have to cater for the cheery indecisives and have an 'all of the above' box. Would be interesting to see several candidates have to share though

Ugh. facebooks lying "who should you vote for" questionnaire told me I should vote for UKIP. WHAT? how did they come up with that? I specifically told them I wasn't concerned about issues of immigration and I *like* the EU.

Yeah. Some of those things are ridiculously flawed.
First exit polls have the Lib Dems actually losing 3 seats on 2005. They're not mentioning the percentage vote with these exit polls, though. So the sheer idiocy of the electoral maths is hidden...for the time being.

having finished my latest set of lineart I am going to bed, I am now tired and bored of the election. And since my fun and happiness at Nigel Farage's suffering WAS RUINED by the do-gooder morality of my cousin bitching at me, there is nothing left for me to revel in.

Any news on the Buckingham results yet? I've been checking the BBC website and they keep saying it hasn't been announced, but everything else makes it look like all the results have been announced, so I'm confused.

All except about 20 of the results have been announced. There was never going to be much rush with the Buckingham results for whatever reason, so who can say when they'll get round to it.

I actually just read someone arguing that PR would be a bad thing because smaller parties with, say, only 20% of a constituency's vote could be represented in parliament, when the other 80% voted against them.
Jesus H. Christ. My mind is seriously blown by how people can completely bastardise their conception of democracy. Using that logic, 64% of the country voted 'against' the Tories, so clearly they shouldn't get all those seats either.

That really annoyed me... I heard someone say on the radio "we can't have a government that 70% of people voted against" omg you idiot you could use roughly the same statistic for any of the 3 major parties see as there seems to be only about 15% between them.

There does seem to be an attitude with some people that whoever THEY voted for should have won (like that woman on Have I Got News For You who was saying "If I vote for the Lib Dems I expect Nick Clegg to be running the country, otherwise it's like me going into a restaurant and ordering cheesecake and them bringing me apple pie" - NO IT ISN'T, YOU DAFT BINT!)

Yes. These are the same prats who will no doubt turn on the Lib Dems if they compromise on even the slightest little thing in their preferred policies...despite still being the 3rd party and being fortunate to have a chance to get any of them implemented AT ALL.

it's like going to a restaurant where they can only make one pudding a night, so everyone has to VOTE and the majority pudding gets made....
...or really it's like each table gets one vote and the majority on the table decide what pudding to vote for so whilst there might have been a large number of cheesecake supporters 90% of the votes went to apple pie because loads of people voted apple pie because they hate treacle tart and thought they'd never get the chance to have cheesecake so they decided to vote apple pie in order to make sure treacle tart didn't get in...
and meanwhile on the buckingham table we get apple *turnovers* because the only other choice was our own children, killed and cooked into pies.
Thus ends my much extended metaphor.

Heh...racist pies, at that. Tim - yeah, that makes me cross too. I don't think we're going to get electoral reform for a long while, and it probably won't be PR straight away - the Lib Dems really need to build up their influence if they want to be in a position to change things. If the election showed one thing, it's that sudden popularity doesn't make much difference. They're going to have to make some compromises to get to a more powerful position, and you just know there are going to be loads of people booing them as sell-outs the moment they do.
