I've kinda tried to clean out that heatsink before but it's not a simple task. It's a radial style heatsink where all the dust gets tightly wedged into fins that come together in the middle. I'd prettey much have to take it apart and hope I could put it back together and have it still work.
As for the mystery program, you can't check the process list in task manager and show processes from all users and sort by CPU usage to find out what's using your CPU? Or is this an older version of Windows that doesn't have stuff like that?

It's Windows 7, but I'm the only user (it's my laptop) so I don't think that would help. I've looked at them by memory usage, and there's Windows Explorer and a couple other things using 10-20 MB each, with everything else much less than that. Next time it happens though, I be sure to check it out more thoroughly and report back.

You may think you are the only user but you may be surprised. There are "users" who aren't actual people type users but instead figments of Window's own system usage. They might be labeled something like "SYSTEM" or "LOCAL SERVICE" or "NETWORK SERVICE"

My first encounter with full-blown high school drama. 3 months to the finish line, too. Almost made it through without any of this crap.

Oh no! Drama sucks. Hopefully there won't be any more!
I hate when my body won't do what I tell it to (I've been dancing...or trying to. I can do a fairly decent cakewalk, though!)

Ugh, what happened, Zam?
Hey, isn't dancing all about trying? And bodies are stubborn things, but if you keep trying maybe it'll do as you say!
The forum's ad boxes have been really very insistent with the most deadly food lately. I find it pretty amusing. I'd like that they sometime point out how deadly it is not to eat food. Definitely better than spambot invasions, anyway...

A close female friend of mine is very angry with me. I did everything I could to remedy the situation as soon as I found out, but I was only made aware after it had festered and friends had taken sides and it turned into a whole big thing.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if it makes you feel any better, in 10 years you will probably look back and say "well that was ludicrous" thats how i feel about most of my formative years and related melodrama.
I tried to tell my students the other day about how their teenage romances weren't going to work out in the long run and they likely weren't going to marry their current beau and be happy forever. I was very unpopular for the rest of the class. I was making a twilight metaphor and I went too far XD

I am pretty detached, I already find it ludicrous. I have enough trouble faking emotions when people want to be my friend, if they don't want that in the first place, I shouldn't have to.
Surprisingly, despite this attitude I still have plenty of friends.

I was very unpopular for the rest of the class. I was making a twilight metaphor and I went too far XD I think you forget that in High school, you are at the absolute pinnacle of your life, you are facing your most stressful situation. Romances are serious, and you will totally end up marrying you Highschool beau. Everyone is watching you and judging you and this will impact the rest of your life! ...Or at least that's how most teenagers think...and how they thought when I was one.

I didn't think like that at all, so I guess I wasn't "most" teenagers. I never even had a high school romance. Although I can verify at least one person who married her high school "beau" and seems relatively happy, so it's not like it CAN'T happen, it just usually doesn't.

Well, to be fair, neither was I [in a romantic relationship]. There was just this expectancy that we were all doing the hardest things in our life [so far], and that these were the most important years [so far], and then from that moment in graduation we were going to accomplish great things at post-secondary education!
I think the fact that a lot of media (television, comics, books) hypes up the somewhat dullness that is high school--makes those days seem more important.

I wasn't (very) romantically attracted to my first crush yet when I was in high school, but I would've had dreams of marriage if I had been, and if I'd thought she'd have me. Considering what happened once it did become a romantic thing. But I've already ranted to you guys enough about my crushing on a straight girl problems.

More related to this thread, I just had to turn down an offer that was easily the most money I've ever been offered to study--in favour of a better known school in a larger city with a broader topic I feel more inspired to try (and at the insistence of my dad, who is smarter than me, but also kind of bias in favour of this larger school). It's like after all those tours, visits, interviews, meetings and mentally favouring one offer over the other for hours only to switch back to the other was for nothing.
I feel kind of crappy now. :I

Well, but it's a good thing that you're doing something you're more inspired to try! It sucks that you had to turn down a good offer, but you took what you preferred and that is a good thing. Try not to feel bad!

Friend dilemma:
My friend moved to Germany a few months ago and at the end of March she's going to be home for the first time, just for a few days and she wants to do something fun with our little group of friends.
It was suggested that we go to Alton Towers, a theme park. I don't really want to go. I don't like rides but my friends have pointed out that there are other things to do there, gardens, sea life centre etc, so I'd probably still have fun.
The problem is it costs £35.00 to get in, and that's if we book it a week in advance, so we're going to have to make a decision soon, otherwise it goes up to £45.00
I don't want to go in the first place and I can't really afford £35.00 right now but I haven't seen my best friend in months, she's only going to be here for a few days and she wants to do someting fun. I don't want to be the one to say no. I've tried to think of something else we could do but nothing comes to mind.
I guess this links to a deeper issue because I am so fucking sick of being unemployed and having to take every single little purchase into account and not letting myself do anything fun.

Is it not a possibility for you to go and meet her another day? I mean, if she's going to go out with other friends anyway, it should be no problem if you can't go and she gets to do something fun anyway. You can invite her over another day or just go to a park and talk? I don't know. I generally prefer to go have coffee/tea/mate/ice cream/whatever with people that lives away when I meet them, because that way you get to talk and know how they are doing, but that is just me... But yeah, I understand how being unemployed can make you feel bad. I'm sorry about that, Tea. I hope you can find something soon D:!

I hate migraines. Had one on Friday, then again on Saturday, and then just for fun another one this morning. I bought my meds for it on Friday and I've already gone through half the box. If I have another one tomorrow I'm going to be really upset/worried/calling my doctor because this isn't right at all.
