Well really it's a case of the red-top tabloids making laughable claims of moral superiority and generally just being the sycophantic vultures there always are.

I've only just learned about The Unofficial Football World Championship...and it is the most awesome thing. "The Unofficial Football World Championships (UFWC) is a way of calculating the world's best football team, using a knock-out title system similar to that used in boxing and wrestling. The title is currently held by Netherlands, and will next be contested against the United States in an international friendly match on 3 March 2010." "The first ever international match was a "rather unexciting" 0-0 draw between England and Scotland, on 30 November 1872 at Hamilton Crescent. The Unofficial World Championship thus remained vacant until the same two teams met again at the Kennington Oval on March 8 1873. England won 4-2, and so are regarded as having become the first ever Unofficial Football World Champions." "[Since then, every] FIFA accredited international 'A' match involving a title holder [has been] considered a title match, with the winners taking the title. "In the event of a title match being a draw, the current holders of the title remain champions. UFWC title matches are decided by their ultimate outcome, including extra time and penalties." Hmm, Netherlands vs USA? Come on the United States!! ...That way England could conceivably take the title back off them in our first World Cup match. >_>

To be fair, if we're looking at the matches between your direct competitors for 4th place as the "important games", you're still doing better than Villa and City:
Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham 0 - 0 Aston Villa Liverpool 2 - 0 Tottenham Tottenham 3 - 0 Manchester City Aston Villa 1 - 1 Tottenham Tottenham 2 - 1 Liverpool
= Eight points out of fifteen (53%).
Liverpool Manchester City 0 - 0 Liverpool Liverpool 2 - 0 Tottenham Aston Villa 0 - 1 Liverpool Liverpool 2 - 2 Manchester City Liverpool 1 - 3 Aston Villa Tottenham 2 - 1 Liverpool
Eight points out of eighteen (44%).
Aston Villa Tottenham 0 - 0 Aston Villa Aston Villa 0 - 1 Liverpool Aston Villa 1 - 1 Tottenham Aston Villa 1 - 1 Manchester City Liverpool 1 - 3 Aston Villa
= Six points out of fifteen (40%).
Manchester City Manchester City 0 - 0 Liverpool Tottenham 3 - 0 Manchester City Liverpool 2 - 2 Manchester City Aston Villa 1 - 1 Manchester City
Three points out of twelve (25%).

You do realise that the origin of the slang term "suck" (as in "You suck", "that sucks", etc.) is a 1920s homophobic reference to fellatio, right?
However these days we've (hopefully) moved on from that and just take "it sucks" to mean "it's bad". The addition of cock is just for the sake of profanity, ala "oh, cock".

Yeah...generic foulmouthery (is that a word?) would be bloody impossible to enforce, to the point where you'd eventually give up caring anyway.
Whoops, just said 'bloody'. >_>

As far as curse words go, I rather like bloody. Yes, it's British... but we Americans steal everything of value anyway from the Motherland. =^-^=

surely all of this banter should be banned from the football thread if we're not allowed to discuss football in other threads
