I'm not sure how I feel about paolo nuttini, for every song I like there's another which is rubbish. New shoes... or whatever it's called is good, as is pencil full of lead, he also does a great cover of it must be love. Candy and last request however are so cheesy and rubbish in comparison...

That's why I pick only that single song to like.
Listened to the 30 second extracts of a bunch of his others on iTunes and didn't care for any of them...

On a more contemporary note (and yet at the same time, really, really not), 'Pencil Full of Lead' by Paolo Nutini is an awesomely happy jazzfest that could have fallen straight out of the 1920s USA. As opposed to the 2009 Scottish guy it actually comes from. Paolo Nutini is Scottish....?!?

I kinda assumed by the name, appearance and general singing voice he was more foreign than that. Shows what i know about current pop stars. Does this mean im not down with the kids anymore?

granted he can have a foreing name and appearance and still be perfectly british, but the way he sings sounds like its not his first language. but then we could say the same about Amy Winehouse................ And im hurt by the getting old business atleast i dont have a mortgage, then i'd really be over the hill............. ;D

It is his first language. His parents are Scottish but his dad is of Italian descent.

*miscellaneous music thread ahoy*
Randomly reacquired some Basement Jaxx this evening... Well, okay, not so random. I was linked to something that used 'Good Luck' and remembered that yes, that IS awesome. So, clearly: bought.
'Do Your Thing' is fun too. 'Red Alert' is sort of obligatory, even if I must have had it on some compilation CD in the past...but I don't know where, so eh. There are other good ones, but I won't get them right now.

The only 'new' music I've been listening to recently is a couple of tracks from the recent Devo album (yes, that Devo, the one from the 80s). Specifically the tracks Human Rocket, March On and Fresh. Oh, and in case you missed it when I linked it on my Facebook Profile, Complete History of the Soviet Union is the most awesome Tetris/history themed song ever.

I like the backing track in most of those, but the lyrics have that annoying 80's-ness.

Yeah, probably. It's the type of annoying 80's-ness that I can cope with though, unlike some other types of annoying 80's-ness. I.E. Not a song breaker, but if it didn't have the good backing then there wouldn't be anything worthwhile in it.
Plus the riff in March On sounds like the Happy Ending tune from an old Mega Drive game, so it earns immediate wub. Even I don't really understand why I enjoy listening to old 16-bit video game music (or things that sound like it), but there you go...

Damned 'Album Only' tracks on iTunes. There are only a couple of tracks from the Scott Pilgrim OST that I want (e.g. Black Sheep by Metric), and only one of them isn't 'Album Only'! Curse them...
Also picked up a couple of Suede songs since I noticed they'd just released a Best Of album. Though not Beautiful Ones, because frankly it's just too whiny (and most of their songs are a little bit whiny).
